The
SPIDER
is a unique, patented piece of equipment that is the cornerstone
of the Norman therapeutic method. The spider allows the patient
to feel safe and confident, while providing the patient with the
appropriate posture and tension. Our goal is to guide patient through all stages of normal development, thereby eliminating pathological motor behavior. The SPIDER consists of a number of elastic cords of different elasticity attached to certain points on the patient's body at one end and connected to different points on the surrounding construction at the other end. This unique suspension device enables independent and controlled movement as well as strengthening of the affected parts of the body. The equipment effectively creates a unique "spider's" web prescribed individually for each patient. The flexible connectors allow improvement with balance and posture. More importantly, it introduces voluntary and precise movement of the body. The SPIDER promotes independence with security and motivates even the most reluctant patient to participate in their rehabilitation. The SPIDER can be combined with and assist all traditional rehabilitation methods. It can be successfully combined with most of rehabilitation and sport equipment. This unique device makes our treatment more effective because it substitutes for the hands of two or three physical therapists. It maximizes the potential for the therapist to empower the patient to use his or her own strengths and abilities in the fullest while promoting confidence and healthy development.
